- Saturday 14th July 2012
11.00 - 4.45, £50 including lunch & refreshments
- Your Course:
This
course will give you some of the background to bees and beekeeping and the
experience of actually venturing into a live colony of honeybees. We will
begin with an illustrated talk about bees, the roles they play in
nature and how beekeepers work with them to garner honey from the woods
and fields. Emphasis will be placed on the benefits of working with
native bees.
After lunch we will open up a hive or two. You should see worker bees, drones, worker and drone brood, honey and pollen stores and if we’re lucky, the queen herself.
Protective clothing will be provided, but please make
sure your body, hair and clothes carry no perfume, or smell of horses.
There will be a nominal fee for the hire of bee suits, payable to the
tutor on the day.
