The 19th century painter Samuel Palmer made wonderful drawings in woodlands to understand and absorb the rhythms, patterns, space and atmosphere of these intimate places. On this course Lionel Playford will help you find ways to explore the garden artistically as a place where natural and man-made forms juxtapose to create visually attractive settings for drawing. We will make good use of line, mark, pattern, composition and colour to create both quick sketches and more involved studies both outdoors and in the studio. Please bring paper and drawing materials, a portable stool and warm clothing and weatherproof footwear . If you wish to sketch with watercolour or coloured ink you will need to bring the necessary tools and materials. Beginners and more experienced students are all welcome.
