Yes, fruit will grow well in Northern climes! The best varieties & planting trees in the garden here as well. The Orchard workshop will take a look at orchard location, topography and soil type as well as orchard fertility and varieties suitable for cultivation in the North East of England. We will take a detailed look at pruning and consider formative work and training systems as well as pruning systems for older orchards. Orchard management and pest and disease control will be considered as will the creation of community orchards and how such projects might be best funded and managed.
Finally you will have a chance to taste a selection of regional apples, apple juices and ciders.
